Possible map for the incremental path. The printer approach (foldamer printers) corresponds to path A in the diagram.

This is about a possible sub-branch of the incremental path.

The idea here is to scale up self-assembly capabilities of various foldamer technologies just far enough to make just the very basic quite minimal viable 3-DOF positional assembly possible. To make the problem even more simple an achievable only can limit the design requirements to ony depassivation and wash-in.
See: Site-specific workpiece activation (Like in the: Catalysis construction kit approach).

That corresponds to moving to the right in the diagram just enough that going turning left becomes possible without going to one-off-special-purpouse devices.

Path marked with A in the diagram.

How would that look like in reality?

See page Foldamer printer for details.

Relation to positional assembly

This would introduce almost fully general purpose bottom up positional assembly.
And weak one at that (Site-specific workpiece activation).

Top down positional assembly is not involved in this scenario.
Product of printer could may or may not be handled top down ...
