When transporting liquids or gasses in pipes there's always drag. AP surfaces too have nonlinear drag but it's several orders of magnitude lower thus packing the medium into pellets and moving them through pipes is a much better solution.

Such pellets can be useful at a number of occasions like:

Filling and emptying pellets from a macroscopic reservoir

Fluids need either hydrophilic or lipophilic surfaces or droplet cutting pistons. Gasses loe in with their speed of sound.
