This article is a stub. It needs to be expanded.
This article defines a novel term (that is hopefully sensibly chosen). The term is introduced to make a concept more concrete and understand its interrelationship with other topics related to atomically precise manufacturing. For details go to the page: Neologism.
The middle one is tether assisted local selfassembly. If there were only one reaction site of only one type in the tethers range it would be just tether assisted assembly. – The scalable vectorgraphic *.svg format of this file is available here.

According to the definition in the book Nanosystems "mechanosynthesis" does not require presence of applied forces.
It just does require motion of AP building blocks along controlled paths (i.e. motions being in machine phase).
Generalizing machine phase a bit

  • "positional machine phase" Motion corridor subatomic width or at least at the source and target of the motion such or at least narrow enough that self centering structures at the end of motions reestablish atomic precision with out needing thermally driven local self assembly.
  • "topological machine phase": Wider motion corridor. Wide enough that thermally driven local self assembly becomes a viable option.
