This article is a stub. It needs to be expanded.

Data compression is important in atomically precise manufacturing and the far term target of gemstone metamaterial technology because storing the position of every single atom is unnecessary and rather infeasible for all but very small products.

Data-compression and decompression in future advanced productive nanosystems will look very different to how nature does it with DNA protein synthesis and natural growth via diffusion processes employing (lipid) membrane based vesicles.
See pages "Synthesis of food" and "Data decompression chain" for details on this.

For really good data-compression and system-tweakability it is detrimental to think of modularity solely in terms of geometrically bounded building blocks of construction kits. Software allowing for the encoding of complex interdependencies across geometric boundaries will be essentially important to avert bad consequences from bad code quality.
See pages "Grouping of geometries" and "Naive groupings as dumbed down functions" for details on this.

Warning! you are moving into more speculative areas.
The need for data compression and data integration (getting to wisdom and understanding from knowledge and data) might be one of the most important reasons for why we humans dream.
See pages "The purpose of dreams" and "Lucid dreaming" for details on this.

There seems to be a link between data (de)compression and reversibel computing. Keywords: "retractile cascades" "uncomputing".
A simple problem/code can (reversible) blow up to very large amount of data, which, when taken/cut sufficiently out of context, can seem truly random.

Global hidden variables in quantum mechanics and true quantum randomness may actually pseudo-random after all perhaps??
Some hope for people who still don't want to give up on determinism yet.
There's also the often overlooked option of agnosticism though preferring fundamental undecidability whether the universe is deterministic or not.
