Materializable programs
Materializable programs or materialized programs for the ones deployed and active.
At first glance this name does not seem to make much sense.
A program as in the sense of "the program code" can't really be materialized beyond a printout. Right?
A programs output can only be materialized (via some sort of decompression chain).
But what if the concept of live coding and micro-granular hot plugging gets
transferred over to programmatic control over technological artifacts?
Where any change in code directly and instantly transfers over to a change in physical state.
Where any change in the artifact directly and instantly transfers over to a change in the code.
Where the technological artifact is a projectional editing interface for the code allowing for direct manipulation.
Then the the name "materializable programs" (or "materialized programs" for the ones active and physically deployed) starts to make much more sense.
Ideas
Pseudo-kneading for enjoyable designing 3D objects
Assume a utility fog or better claytronics like base.
Difference between the two: The former is volume compressible latter not.
Assume usage as a hand formable material where the shape gets stored in data.
But as a twist: The 3D shapes are not completely free-form.
When pushing or pulling (by proxmity detected gesture) on the material,
then the shapes snap to perfect geometries and stepped sizes according to set constraints.
The shape still gets stored in data but this time it is not low level triangle meshes or such
but the data is programmatic CAD code that can be called up and modified anywhere any time.
The constraints for shapes and size steps are set by an UI interface of physical 3D buttons and sliders
these touchable UI elements are too made from these diamondoid APM claytronics.
They deploy and vanish according to the users prefwerences.
There can be meta UI elements that control presence absence or shape of other touchable UI elements.
For final actual products there can be specialized special metamaterials
that are not as freeform as the claytronics used for 3D modeling.
The claytronics used for 3D modeling helps one to get to the right shape quick by allowing to go through shapes that are
impossible or slow hard to reach for specialized metamaterials as there e.g.
the parts would need to be full disassembled and re-assembeld for every shape change which would be tedious.
The programatic CAD code can be parametric and parameters can be locked and opened up in various combinations.
Then pushing or pushing at certain points by hand will allow free adjustment wile solving the constraints to uphold them.
Direct manipulation to the logical conclusion.
Minimal invasive street maintenance

There under the road you find classics like

★ gas pipes
but also advanced upgraded versions like
★ nanotube conductors, maybe superconducting lines
And entirely novel tings like
★ global microcomponent redistribution system conduits
★ superlube tube pipemail
– taking the role of some of the old infrastructure (water, sewage, gas, and general products like e.g. apples, woodcarvings, whatever)
– especually rather than dangerous gas: safe (as freezing on damage) entropic chemical energy conduits
All the new APM based and well designed infrastructure lines
will be equally easy to modify as the street cover itself.
There might not even be a need to open up the street but rather be available
direct access via a staircase beside the street
due to underground dig-outs and support (like e.g. tubbing or other means) getting way cheaper.
