This page is about less or more hard SciFi fictitious scenarios about how our (their, i.e. our ancestors)
future world could look like. Dystopian scenarios, utopian scenarios, and scenarios aiming at realism.
As of 2024 A relatively new utopian mainstream direction is called "solarpunk"
in naming likely intentionally a bit complementary to "cyberpunk" that is usually more dystopian in nature.
Dangers of utopias
Utopias can in many respects be too naive such that they'd turn out dystopian if actually implemented.
An utopia for cars is not necessarily one for humans, but when back when cars meant freedom not traffic jam and obesity,
making worlds for cars what was people want to strive fro and actually did strive for. Peculiarly in the US.
Also utopias can easily get entangled with political views.
So much so that it's hard to impossible to present an utopia without making any political statements at all.
World building on this wiki
This wiki for the moment tries to cover world-building scenarios …
- that do not aiming to depict the ultimate paradise utopia (TM),
instead realizing that a new world will come with new
challenging problems that'll be reflected in its look.
- that are on the as-realistic-as-possible side
- that are on the quite optimistic we-would-want-to strive for this side
Regarding the "we":
It should be obvious that it is not really possible to agree on one common ideal
among all of humanity with the vastly differing views of peoples and cultures.
The world is a big place having space for many futures to coexist.
