Prototypical example in parts assembly
Having almost square holes and tightly fitting pegs.
The peg goes in 90° rotated by accident
causing a too tight or to loose fit.
Not causing immediate problems during assembly time
and possibly not even causing immediate problems during usage time.
but possibly casing severe to catastrophic problems much later
in a critical situation where full performance is needed.
And one maybe goes a "bit" beyond nominal maximal load capacity specs.
As the conseqiences of not doing that are equally catastrophic.
Self limitation for safety
Using specialized one function only mechanical metamaterials
rather than Utility fog or claytronics with Mobile microscale robotic device.
Not just for higher performance but also and especially for higher safety.
Against accidents and malicious attacks (that could also be sort of framed as accidents sometimes).
