When landing n the Moon wit a space probe one needs to approach the surface and 
stop exactly at the right height to not crash the spacecraft and destroy it. 
There is noting that slows one down actively. 
One needs to do the slowdown solely by sensing (visuals, radar, laser ranging,& co) 
and artificial feedback loops to stop at precisely the right height and location.
